🏖️ 5 Days in Torrevieja and Beyond – Sun, History, Nature & Tapas

If your dream holiday includes crystal-clear beaches, charming Spanish towns, breathtaking natural wonders, and delicious tapas, this 5-day itinerary is just for you. Torrevieja is a fantastic base to explore the many gems along the Costa Blanca.

☀️ Day 1: Arrival in Torrevieja – Beach Time & Sunset Walk in Cabo Roig

Afternoon:
After arriving and checking into your accommodation, head straight to one of Torrevieja’s beautiful beaches – Playa del Cura or Playa de Los Locos are perfect for a relaxing afternoon swim and some sunshine.

Evening activity:
Catch the sunset on the Cabo Roig promenade, a beautifully built walking path lined with palm trees and stunning sea views. It’s also kid-friendly and stroller-accessible.

Dinner tip:
Enjoy your first evening with a delicious meal and a jug of sangria at Restaurante La Mirada, located right on Playa de La Zenia.

🚗 Day 2: Day Trip to Altea, Guadalest & Fonts de l’Algar Waterfalls

📍 Altea – Whitewashed Beauty by the Sea

Leave early to make the most of your day! Altea is a picture-perfect coastal town with narrow cobblestone streets, artisan shops, and its iconic blue-domed church atop the hill.

Parking tip:
Avoid the center and park near Pizza Party Altea – it’s an easy walk to the old town from there:

Sweet stop:
Before heading back to the car, don’t miss De Sabors for some amazing pastries or artisanal gelato.

🏰 Guadalest – A Medieval Gem in the Mountains

This tiny village perched in the hills (population ~200) is one of Spain’s hidden treasures. The main attraction is the Castell de Guadalest, offering panoramic views of the mountains and the turquoise reservoir below.

Parking tip:
There’s a large paid parking lot at the entrance to town (2€), and a local attendant will guide you in.

💦 Fonts de l’Algar – Waterfalls & Natural Pools

Cap off the day at Fonts de l’Algar, a series of waterfalls and natural pools where you can cool off with a swim.

Entrance to the waterfalls is around 4€ per person.

⚓ Day 3: Cartagena – Roman Ruins, Coffee Culture & a Quiet Beach

Cartagena is a gorgeous port city with deep Roman roots and fewer crowds than other tourist hotspots.

Must-see stops:

  • Roman Theater of Cartagena – one of the city’s most iconic landmarks

  • CaféLab – a trendy specialty coffee shop

  • Cala Cortina – a scenic beach with small pebbles (great for snorkeling!). There’s no mobile reception here, so it’s a perfect digital detox zone.

🌿 Day 4: Relax in Torrevieja – Pink Lakes, Local Markets & Tapas

After a few packed days, slow down and enjoy the laid-back charm of Torrevieja.

  • Pink salt lakes (Laguna Salada de Torrevieja) – famous for their vivid pink hue and flamingos

  • Local market – perfect for tasting fresh produce and picking up souvenirs

  • Tapas & sangria – treat yourself to a relaxed meal at a beachfront chiringuito (beach bar)
